Poetry Update Wednesday May 9 / 2019

Today students are completing page 10 in their poetry booklets. They will be writing a Demonstrational Poem. This is the students first attempt at writing a polished and focused poem and must demonstrate 6 of the poetic devices we studied yesterday. The poem also needs to be annotated with an Answer Key showing and explaining the 6 poetic devices used in the poem.


The second half of the class students will be looking at and practicing how to properly analyze a  poem. They will find a poem of their own (this can be done online) and can include music lyrics from a favourite song if they choose. They will then answer the following questions on page 13 of their poetry booklets.

Pay special attention to questions 2/4/5 & 9, each of these could be a paragraph or longer when completed.

This will need to be done by the end of class this Friday, May 10, 2019.

Week #2 of Lit Circles

Week #2 of Lit Circles is here. Today students will be having their group meetings and then begin working on their summaries. Please remember that the Vocab Director does not need to do a summary! We are also introducing the Blog Pages for each novel these Links will be found under the ELA 9 Book Club Blogs Tab on the top left of this blog. Have fun!

Day 1 of Lit Circles

Good Morning,

Today we will be starting our first reading day for the Lit Circles. Your Role booklets are available under the Novel Study tab to the top right, and then at the bottom of the page. The dates are set and filled in for your meetings, with the first starting this Wednesday March13th. All book groups will need to figure out the page count required to be completed too and then fill that information in each students booklet.

Introduction to Literature Circles

Today students will be introduced to Literature Circles and how the various roles they will be performing through out their novel studies. An individual package will be made available to each student under the Novel Study tab. This will serve as the backbone for scheduled group meetings and the work that will be performed over the next few weeks.

Update From Smith

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have updated most grades in powerschool. Also, that some of you have been asking about the missing work or quizzes; please do not worry if you were away it is all okay, you will be able to complete those and other work when you return from your break. I do have a few more paragraphs to read and update the grades.
